LSUA will be hosting "Spend the Day @ A." This will be held on Tuesday, November 21 from 9-2 at the Fitness Center. You will be able to meet with Academic Departments and professors, talk with student organizations, speak with Admissions and Financial Aid professionals, take a tour of campus, have a free lunch, and receive free LSUA goods. The Balfour representative will be back on Thursday, November 16th at 9:00 to take orders for graduation supplies. Every student must pay a $75.00 graduation fee, regardless of if you are ordering from Balfour. (This includes the rental of your gown and the diploma fee. You will be allowed to keep your mortar board/cap and tassel.) If you are ordering supplies from them, you are required to pay $100.00 on this day, if your order exceeds $100. You will be given the opportunity to pay monthly or whatever is convenient for you. These supplies will be delivered in April. Please call if you have any questions.
National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship-The local chapter will award a $500 scholarship to one child and that winner’s application will be sent for the National competition. You must have: a 3.00 GPA, a current hunting license, membership in the NWTF(may join at nwtf.org for $10, if you are under 18), be involved in community activities, and write a short essay. FAFSA Help: The CLTCC will host a FAFSA workshop on Monday, Nov. 13 from 2:00-5:00. They will advise and assist you in the process of completing the application. The state of Louisiana requires each senior to complete the FAFSA or opt out of the process.
A Day with the Doctors 2018-This is a one-day interactive program that offers high school students who have an interest in becoming a physician, an opportunity to experience doctors’ daily activities and life on LSU Health’s Shreveport and New Orleans and Tulane School of Medicine campuses. To apply: You must be a junior or senior with at least a 3.0 cumulative average to apply, have one letter of recommendation, transcript, and a short personal essay explaining why you should be selected to participate and what you hope to gain. CI:Healthcare 2018-This is an activity-filled day that offers high school students, who have an interest in health careers, an opportunity to explore Nursing and Allied Health careers at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University in Baton Rouge or LSUA in Alexandria. Must be a junior or senior and have a 2.5 GPA. Deadline: Nov. 14.
There are two more programs available through A-HEC. One is MASH 2018. This is the opportunity to attend a summer session at LSUA. To qualify, you must have attended A-HEC of a Summer or A Day with the Doctors. Deadline to apply: March 1. A-HEC of a Summer-This is open to all Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors. 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Award-This is open to grades 5-12. You must have participated in a volunteer activity at least in 2016. You must complete and submit the online application by Nov. 7. For more information: spirit.prudential.com or nassp.org/spirit.
LSU College of Agriculture Freshman scholarship-The Dept. of Agriculture is very broad at LSU. (Nutrition, Forestry, Aqua-culture, Fashion Design, etc.) A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one resident from each parish. Must be accepted to LSU and have 3.O GPA. Please see Mrs. Daggett for more information. This will not open until NOV. 1.
